History of IAPB – Evolution & Milestones
- Founded in 1963 as the International Council of Plant Tissue Culture.
- Renamed International Association for Plant Tissue Culture (IAPTC) in 1970, then IAPTC & Biotechnology (IAPTC&B) in 1998.
- Adopted current name, International Association for Plant Biotechnology (IAPB), in 2006 .
- Fifteen Congresses held globally since 1963, documenting advances from tissue culture to molecular genetics and biotech crops .
- Key congress milestones: 1994 Florence: expansion to molecular biology and plant biotechnology. 1998 Jerusalem: biotech crops reach commercial use marking “coming of age”. 2026 Saskatoon: Focus on climate action and sustainable development
